autobiography---final

Family Background
My mane is Meng-Ting Tsai, and there are four people in my family.  My father, who is a salesman in a direct-account company, joins every activity in a positive attitude.  My father teaches me that doing everything with a positive attitude and never caring too much about the results is important but what I learn from the process, and that if I fail unfortunately, I can take it as an experience and do my best to carry out my goal next time.  My mother is a career woman, working in Cheng Kung University.  On every summer and winter vacation, I study in my mother’s office; therefore, I see that she works efficiently and interacts with the students well.  What I learn from my mother is that I have to make deliberate plan before I do everything so that I can finish efficiently.  I also have a younger brother, who is a junior high school student.  He is very naughty and always makes my mother angry.  But he is very smart and often makes art works at home; additionally, he often reads science magazines to get abundant knowledge.  His diligence to absorb  knowledge is what I can learn.  I’m lucky enough to live in a harmonious family.

School Life
I studied at Department of Applied Foreign Languages, National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS).  Since I was a child, I have a big crush on English, and this is why I chose it as my major.  Not only did I pay close attention in class, but I also attend some English contests to improve my English ability.  For instance, I submitted two English compositions to our school’s magazine, and I attended MyET English tutor.  Furthermore, with an eye of examining my English ability, I took General English Proficiency Test for the intermediate level and the level 2 of English Ability Association, and I passed them.  Besides, I attained the preliminary test of the high-intermediate level of GEPT, including listening and reading in the 12th grade.  Apart from learning English, I have also studied Japanese in the cram school since I was a 10th grader student, and I also listened to Japanese songs and watched Japanese animation cartoons to enhance my Japanese listening ability in my free time.

In addition to studying hard, I also learned a lot from serving as a class cadre member and joined in many activities.  I have ever served as class leader, vice class leader, assistant to Regulation of Practice & Counseling Division and assistant to English writing teacher in my class.  By being in charge of these positions, I got many precious experiences.  For example, I was extremely happy to be elected class leader of my class, but I was not capable of being a good class leader at the beginning of the semester, since I couldn’t handle everything very well such as expressing myself clearly as I announced something important to my classmates, and leading my classmates to discuss important issues and help them to reach a conclusion.  Yet, my teacher and friends helped me to undergo the tough moments; moreover, I learned step by step and did everything with all my might.  Finally, I made it to be a responsible leader, and the most valuable lesson I have learned is that if I want to please everyone, I would probably please no one.  Had it not been for the opportunity of being a class leader, my leadership ability could not have improved so much; also I wouldn’t grow and become more mature.  Leading a class was a little difficult for me at first, but I was glad that I learned so much from serving for my class.

Self-Evaluation
I’m regarded as an optimistic and polite person.  Every day I wear a smile on my face and say thank you to whoever helps me.  I believe that if my classmates see my smile, they’re also in a good mood and it’s more likely for me to achieve everything successfully.  Therefore, I was elected as politeness model by my classmates.  Also, I believe in the creed that look on the bright sight.  As I’m faced with difficulties or my failures, I always try to hold an optimistic heart and try to figure out the best solution.  Plus, I’m a positive student.  I attend many English competitions to improve my English ability and enrich my experiences.  To my surprise, I won the stunning performances in the first year and the third in my second year in English composition contest of my school.  Besides, I always do everything with all my might.  It’s my belief that the more effort I make, the more likely I will succeed.  In high school, I spend lots of time learning English along with my second language, Japanese.  I not only do my best to remember lots of new vocabulary and grammar but also read some books to enhance Japanese culture.
I not only work hard on my school work but also participate actively in my extracurricular activities. In my pastime, I like to read novels, watch animation cartoons and movies, and listen to English and Japanese songs.  I like to read novels, for I enjoy regarding myself as the main character in novels so that I can experience different lifestyles and stories.  After reading every novel, I can grasp what the novels tell about, learn some good sentences in novels, and stimulate my imagination to improve my writing skills.  Besides, I prefer to watch movies, cartoons, and listen to songs not only because I can feel relaxed but because I can improve my English and Japanese listening ability.  As for my specialty, I’m good at playing the Trombone and recorders.  I played the recorders with my classmates in elementary school, and played the Trombone in junior high school.  Every time I practiced with my classmates, I felt relaxed and content with the melodious songs.  Also, I treasured the moment we performed and the happiness on the audience’s face.

Future Perspectives
I will still choose English as my major in college, since I have a strong interest in English and want to broaden my learning of English; moreover, it is vital to have good foreign language abilities as looking for a job.  To me, studying a foreign language is a long and difficult process, but I will do my best to improve my English ability from different aspects.  I will keep reading magazines, listening to English songs and magazine CDs, practice speaking with my friends, and write some English compositions.  Besides, I will do part time job as an English tutor in order to get some teaching experience and I will also take more advanced professional courses to improve English ability.  Aside from English, I’ll also study Japanese and try all my might to get certificates on Japanese.  Although I’ve study Japanese for three years in a cram school, I still want to enhance more knowledge in Japanese.  For the purpose of advancing my English and Japanese abilities in all aspects, I really hope I can be admitted to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.  In the future, I will achieve my goals with all my might and make progress step by step.

Conclusion
I love English and Japanese very much, and I want to take many advanced courses in your university and get experience takes from different activities.  Plus, I’ll achieve all my goals with my utmost in the future.  To sum up, I hope after you review my self-description, I can be admitted to your school.

autobiograph-sample two

I am Tao. My English name is Angela. I am 17 years old. I am from Taipei First Girls' High School. I come from a well-to-do family. My mother passed away when I was in my first junior high year. My father is a computer engineer and remarried three years ago. My stepmother is an elementary school teacher. So I have a sweet stepbrother, who is now in the sixth grade. My grandparents live with us as well. My family get along pretty well.
Throughout my school years, my academic results have always been pretty good, except in the second half of the first year and the first half of the second year. It is because my mother's death was such a trauma to me. It took me more than a year to get better. My father was afraid that I would turn bad after that. So he encouraged me to join many extra-curricular activities. He sent me to piano class, ballet class and art class.
His purpose was that through music and art, I would find a way to release my pain so that my heart would be comforted. I am very grateful to my father's caring and thoughtful consideration. Ever since then, music is my spiritual guide and gradually becomes my most intimate companion. I then practice the piano very hard and make up my mind to become a pianist.
In my high school years, I have taken any chance to participate in school activities. I join the choir and jazz club, both clubs offering plenty of contests and performances for many occasions. We have won many contests and had been invited by the Mayor to perform in City Hall. I am also the member of art club, for I enjoy sketching and painting very much.
Every time when I have chance, I would go to the music theater to listen to symphony and orchestra performances. There is not once I would not be moved by the music. I really admire those musicians' talent, passion and dedication to music. I wish one day I would be able to become one of them, performing on the stage and touring around the world. That's my passion and expectation to myself. I hope you would give me a chance to fulfill it.

autobiography-sample one

I am Lin. Sophia is my English name. I am 18 years old, studying in a public high school. I come from a very happy middle-class family. My father works in a bank and my mother works in a bookstore. I am the only child in the family; however, I am not the so-called spoiled child. My parents have trained me to be independent since I was a child.
Throughout my academic years, I not only get good grades but also am very active on sport field and involved in school club activities. I play volleyball and enjoy the team spirit we have. I have joined the drama club and participated in many English speech contests. I really enjoy participating in school activities; I not only make many friends and have lots of fun but also gain many different valuable experiences.
I had been the class English assistant for almost three years. I liked to discuss and share the experience of learning English with people a lot. We often read China Post and Time Magazine then discussed their contents, the word usages and practice speaking English by discussing the articles we read. In the beginning, we found it hard because we could rarely understand the content, but we encouraged each other not to give up. Gradually, we had made improvement. We were so excited. Then the group discussion of English books and magazines became one of the most enjoyable thing for us to do every week. I won the first prize in the school English speech contest in my second year of high school and many of my English articles had been put on Students Post.
My fondness for English has been developed since my childhood. It is lonely to be the only child. I had no one to play with when I was a kid. My mother knew about this so she brought me with her all the time. Hence, bookstores became my childhood playground and books have been my playmates. Mother would show me those fancy books with cute illustrations on them. Firstly drawn by the pictures, I was curious about these strange symbols called “words.” This was my first contact with English. As I was interested in knowing what those symbol mean, my parents taught me a bit. As they felt that I was eager to learn, they got me an English tutor. Thanks to my parents, I have advantages in learning English by starting at a really early age.
My interest in English brought me to the world of English literature. I have been enchanted by this creative world, so I decide to major in English literature. My aim is to explore the world of literature and the world of great writers, opening my eyes and cultivating my mind through this great world of literature.
Besides English literature, I also have a wide range of hobbies. I love reading, writing, music and movies. I have my active side as well. I enjoy swimming, hiking, traveling and getting close to Nature a lot. I believe we must achieve a sense of balance in our lives. As to my personality, I am creative, optimistic, determined, willing to help others and down to earth.
I want to be one of the literature students who has the privilege of studying great writers’ works and exploring their inner worlds, their outlook of lives, their roles as learned scholars and their influences on the world. I hope I can also make some contribution to the awareness of culture and literature in our society since its importance has been neglected.

Best of the semester -3

That students should wear uniform to school or not has been discussed for a few time.  Majority of people regard that students don’t wear uniform to school as liberty and a policy the authority concerned should implement, while what I think is that wearing uniform to school is more convenient than wearing leisure wears.  It’s because students don’t spend too much time chosing which clothes they should wear before going to school.  If students dress in leisure wear to school, it may take quite a little time to those who want to look more beautiful and handsome to decide the clothes, which contributes to them to go to school late.  Additionally, some continue to argue that students don’t have to wear uniform to school, but the condition now in every school backs up that students wear uniform to school looks more regular and can be identified.  If students get lost while going field trip; the police can help find them more easily.  Moreover, if students wearing uniforms were attacked by the gangs and passed out, passersby can call the school to help make contact with their parents by telling their student numbers.  Last but not the least, no one can argue against the fact that if students wear uniform to school, they can be safer.  That is, if a stranger or a thief runs into a school, securities, teachers and military instructors can catch him immediately before he hurts students, makes school into a chaos and commits crimes.  Taking into account all of these points, it should be clear that student should wear uniform to school.

Best of the semester -2

My favorite movie is Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, a science fiction, which is about how the main characters Harry, Ron, and Hermione figure out the clues left by Albus Dumbledore to struggle with Lord Voldemort.  The movie is filled with magic, adventure, love and strong friendship between each other.  I am fond of this movie, for I learn a variety of precious things from it.  To begin with, it takes guts to accomplish every mission.  Since the three main characters are brave enough to defeat the demon, I hope I could be more courageous like them to fulfill significant tasks, face the difficulties, and challenge plenty of adventure to improve myself .  Additionally, mutual trust is the key to the success.  In the movie, the three charters trust each other in the war so that they can win.  As far as I'm concerned, if I believe that my teammates can defeat other team on the relay race, I will be more energetic and there will be more likely to win the race.  Last but not the least, it is of crucial important of doing the best to achieve the goals.  Harry figure out the clues and fight the Voldemort with all his effort.  As an old saying goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” implementing my goals with all my mind instead of giving in to obstacles, maybe someday all my goals will be carried out.  As what are mentioned above, not only do I learn many things from this movie but I get lots of pleasure from this movie as well.

Best of the semester -1

I was a hardworking athlete and once won a championship in a race, but everything changed owing to a terrible accident, which occurred on my way home after the race.  I was hit by a truck and passed out immediately on account of shedding too much blood and breaking one of my legs.  Although I was sent to the hospital at once, I lost my consciousness for at least one month.  After I came to myself, I felt depressed on everything, for I found I can’t do anything well with only one legs.  Moreover, I had negative attitude toward my life, trying to kill myself.  One day, however, while I was fooling around in a wheel chair in the hospital, there was an elder man, who lost one of his legs, trying his best to walk with a stick.  Although he fell down again and again, he never gave up.  A thought suddenly came to my mind that I should practice walking instead of keeping feeling depressed day after day, and then I made up my mind to practice step by step and take part in Olympic Games of physical disabilities five years later.  Finally, my efforts paid back and I won a championship again.  As the proverb goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”  If I tried, there must be some opportunities for me to succeed.

Discussing effect - 1 (Revised)

Global warming has been an important issue for several years.  On account of global warming, there are more and more influences coming with it.  With the temperature rising, the icebergs melt away and the sea level rises day by day, which finallyl threatens coastal areas.  Therefore, people who dweller in coral reef islands such as Tuvalu have to move to other countries.  Additionally, we’ll have food shortage.  Many plants can’t grow and animals can’t live in the environment of high temperature.  Little by little, lacking food will bring about famine in many countries.  Besides, animal diversities will decrease, for some animals aren’t able to reproduce in high temperature.  In the end, animals will never exist.  As what's mentioned above, there will be more and more problems resulting from global warming.  All we can do now is to protect the environment from being worse.

Discussing effect - 2 (Revised)

I've lived in a small town called Acton for around twenty years.  It is safe, quiet, and clean; moreover it has only 2,500 residents here.  Moreover, we know each other very well, always help and concern with each other.  We all lead comfortable lives in this town, which has not changed very much in the past 100 years, but something is about to change in the small town.  It is last month that Stanley Manufacturing decided to build a large factory in our town.  Although this decision may bring more jobs for us, I’m afraid that opening a factory here will trigger lots of pollution.  The air here may be polluted by some chemicals, leading to our respiratory systems lack of function.  The chemicals will also pollute water; therefore, we will drink dirty water, and we will get sick.  It will also be much noisier here, which may contribute to our bad hearing.  Plus, it will be more dangerous than before.  With the more job opportunities in the factory, many people will move from other countries to here to work in the factory.  As many immigrants moving to Acton, there will be fewer jobs for everyone.  Then the criminal rates will increase and everyone here will live with worry.  Last, the more people dwell in Acton, the less people will concern with each other.  We will know little about our neighbors and never help each other in the long run.  To sum up, I don’t want Acton to change and hope every inhabitant here can lead simple lives here in the future.

Discussing Cause 2 (Revised)

After reading the paragraph, I learn about some reasons why Michael Willians’s business failed in around 4 months.  First, Michael opens the store on small side street just outside of town.  Compared with the shop in the shopping center, there aren’t lots of people buying CDs in his shop ,since it’s scarcely for them to find his shop.  When it comes to business hours, Michael opens his shop on Monday to Friday at 1 pm to 5 pm when there are few people walking past the store.  If Michael opened his store at 12 pm to 6 pm not only on daily but also on weekends, his shop might not turn down now.  Additionally, most of the customers to Michael’s shop are at the age from 40 to 61.  But the CDs, hip-hop and rock, selling in Michael’s shop are all much more suitable for the young people aged from 11 to 30, who are less than the middle-aged and the old in Michael’s shop.  As for the payment, people can only pay in cash and checks and credit cards are not accepted, which cause that people turn down their willing to buy CDs.  Maybe some people only have credit cards or they can’t pay for a CD for they don’t have enough money at present.  As what mentioned above, those are why Michael failed to run his shop well.

Discussing Cause 1 (Revised)

There are many reasons that influence me to choose English as my major.  To begin with, my father who likes English very much inspired my interest in English as I was little.  In my childhood, my father sometimes talked with me in English; moreover, he paid money for foreign teacher in order to give me more opportunities to practice English fluently.  Therefore now I want to learn more in English.  Additionally, I hope I can be a great English teacher in the future.  For the purpose of meeting my expectation, I choose English as my major to master in English.  Last but not the least, speaking English has become a mainstream in every countries nowadays.  If I master in English, then when I get into trouble in other countries, I can express my thought in English to local people and foreigners with more details so that they can help me deal with my problems.  As what mentioned above are what impact me on choosing English as my major.

Expressing an opinion-1(Revised)

Whether students should wear uniform to school or not has been discussed for a few time.  Majority of people regard that students don’t wear uniform to school as liberty and a policy that should be implemented by  the authority concerned, while what I think is that wearing uniform to school is more convenient than wearing leisure wears.  It’s because students don’t spend too much time choosing which clothes they should wear before going to school.  If students dress leisure wear to school, it may take quite a little time to those who want to look more beautiful and handsome to decide the clothes, which contributes to them to go to school late.  Additionally, some continue to argue that students don’t have to wear uniform to school, but the condition now in every school backs up that students wear uniform to school looks more regular and can be identified.  If students get lost while going field trip, the police can help find them more easily.  Moreover, if students wearing uniform were attacked by the gangs and passed out, passersby can call the school to help make contact with their parents by telling their student numbers.

Expressing an opinion-2 ( Revise )

I strongly insist that our authority concerned must use the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment.  Although some people insist that using the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment isn’t a good way to deter the crime, for the judge could pronounce erroneous sentence, which may trigger their family feel sorrowful, I think there are few possibilities for the judge to announce the wrong sentence as they would look into the crimes thoroughly.  Some may stand up for that human have the right to survival, so it doesn’t justify using the death penalty to decrease the crimes.  However, the counterargument is that those who commit homicide don’t treasure their live and others’, so if not using the death penalty to diminish the crimes may cause more cases than ever before and there will be more victims killed by the murders.  Additionally, no one can argue against the fact that if the criminals are sentenced to life imprisonment, people are under no obligation to pay money for the criminals to have meals in prison.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that we should use the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment.

Discussing effect - 1

Global warming has been an important issue for several years.  On account of global warming, there are more and more influences come with it.  With the temperature rising, the icebergs melt away and seas rise day by day.   Finally, rising seas that threaten coastal areas, so people who dweller in coral reef islands such as Tuvalu have to move to other countries.  Additionally, we’ll have food shortage.  Many plants can’t rise and animals can’t live in the environment of high temperature.  Little by little, lacking food will bring about famine in many countries.  Besides, animal diversities will decrease, for some animals aren’t able to live in high temperature.  In the end, animals will never exist.  As what's mentioned above, it will be more and more problems resulting from global warming.  All we can do now is to protect the environment from being worse.

I’ve lived in a small town called Acton for around twenty years.  It is safe, quiet, and clean and has only 2,500 residents here.  Moreover, we know each other very well, always help and concern with each other.  We all lead comfortable lives this town, which has not changed very much in the past 100 years, but something is about to change in the small town.  It is Last month that Stanley Manufacturing decided to open a large factory in our town.  Although this decision may bring more jobs for us, I’m afraid that opening a factory here will trigger lots of pollution.  The air here may be polluted by some chemicals, leading to our respiratory systems lack of function.  The chemicals will also pollute water; therefore, we will drink dirty water, we might get sick.

Comparing 3 --Revised

Julie and Judy are my good friends and they have some similarities in some ways.  As for appearance, Julie has long hair and so does Julie.  Moreover, Julie’s eye size is similar to Judy’s.  When it comes to personality, Julie is as quiet as Judy.  Additionally, Julie doesn’t like to do complicated things and neither does Judy.  As to capabilities, two of them are good at drawing and writing.  Last but not the least, they are at the age of seventeen.  As what is mentioned above, Julie and Judy are alike in many ways, if Julie doesn’t wear a pair of glasses and isn’t taller than Julie; it’s easy for me to make mistakes.

Contrasting 2 -revised

There are two people sent resumes to apply for a new English instructor in my school.  One is Debra Fines, and the other is Lynn Whitnall.  Debra has more education than Lynn.  The former studied philosophy at PhD Linguistics in University of Pennsylvania, MA English in University of Toronto and BA English in McGill University, whereas the latter only studied Spanish in International High School.  Besides, Debra experiences more employment than Lynn does.  Debra was a swimming teacher, a teaching assistant at Linguistics Department in University of Pennsylvania, and an instructor at Intensive English Program in University of Vermont; now she is a consultant and author.  Unlike Debra, Lynn was an English Instructor in Tokyo Girls High School, now she is a Spanish teacher in International High school.  Additionally, Debra has published English books, but Lynn hasn’t.  When it comes to their language ability, Debra can speak English and French.  On the other hand, Lynn is fluent in Spanish, French, and Japanese.  Compared to the two resumes, I would like to hire Debra Fines because she has more English experience than Lynn does, and I hope Debra Fines can do the job well.

Discussing Cause 2

After reading the paragraph, I learn about some reasons for why Michael Willians’s business failed in around 4 months.  First, Michael opens the store on small side street just outside of town.  Compared with the shop in the shopping center, there aren’t lots of people buying CDs in his shop, for it’s scarcely for them to find his shop.  When it comes to business hours, Michael opens his shop on Monday to Friday at 1 pm to 5 pm when there are few people walking past the store.  If Michael opened his store at 12 pm to 6 pm not only on daily but also on weekends, his shop might not turn down now.  Additionally, most of the costumes to Michael’s shop are at the age from 40 to 61.  But the CDs, hip-hop and rock, selling in Michael’s shop are all much suitable for the young people aged from 11 to 30, who are less than the middle-aged and the old in Michael’s shop.  As for the payment, people can only pay in cash and checks and credit cards are not accepted, which cause that people turn down their willing to buy CDs.  Maybe some people only have credit cards or they can’t pay for a CD for they don’t have enough money at present.  As what mentioned above,  that are why Michael failed to run his shop well.

Discussing Cause 1

There are many reasons that influence me to choose English as my major.  To begin with, my father who likes English very much inspired my interest in English as I was little.  In my childhood, my father sometimes talked with me in English; moreover he paid money for foreign teacher in order to give me more opportunities to practice English fluently.  Therefore now I want to learn more in English.  Additionally, I hope I can be a great English teacher in the future.  For the purpose of meeting my expectation, I choose English as my major to master in English.  Last but not the least, speaking English has become a mainstream in the society nowadays.  If I master in English, then when I get into trouble in other countries, I can express my thought in English to local people and foreigners with more details and more clearly so that they can help me deal with my problems.  As what mentioned above are what impact me on choosing English as my major.

Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were important Americans.  They played significant parts in American Revolution.  Additionally, like Thomas Jefferson, John Adams was delegated to the Continental Congress.  When it comes to Declaration of Independence, John Adams was one of the signers, and so was Thomas Jefferson.  Moreover, not only did they study and practice law, but they were also presidents of United States.  On July fourth, 1826, John Adams died. Likewise, Thomas Jefferson passed away on the same day. There were many similarities between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

My friend and I are looking for an apartment to share near campus, and I see two descriptions of apartments on the Internet.  One is Fairfax Apartments, and the other is CAMPUS APTS.  They are different in many ways as following:  For one thing, there are two large bedrooms in the Fairfax Apartments, whereas there is only one bedroom in the CAMPUS APTS.  Additionally, the former provide furnish, while the latter doesn’t.  As for pets, keeping pets is allowed in CAMPUS APTS.  In contrast, it’s not allowed in Fairfax Apartments.  When it comes to rent, it takes $1250 per month to rent Fairfax Apartment.  On the other hand, we only have to spend $900 on CAMPUS APTS.  After comparing with these two descriptions of apartments, my friend and I decided to rent CAMPUS APTS, since it is cheaper than the other one and we can keep a pet.

I find a piece of interesting news on the newspaper, and it says, “A severe car accident happened on the Washington Street this morning, and the police found something interesting when they kept a record of the two careless drivers’ licenses.  Tow of the drivers are women; one is called Stephanie Brooks and the other is named Ann Friedman.  Both of their driver’s licenses are released from the Department of Motor Vehicles in Alabama State.  Besides, Stephanie Brooks’s brown eyes are the same color as Ann Friedman's.  Moreover, their hair colors are alike.  As to their height, not only is Stephanie Brooks 5 feet and 3 inches in height but Ann Friedman is also.  Finally, Stephanie Brooks was born on July thirty-first in 1981, and so was Ann Friedman.”  Little do I believe that one’s personal information may be the same as others, after I read the news.  Perhaps some day I could meet someone having something in common with me.

Giveing Reasons--My favorite movie--Revise
