Family Background
My mane is Meng-Ting Tsai, and there are four people in my family. My father, who is a salesman in a direct-account company, joins every activity in a positive attitude. My father teaches me that doing everything with a positive attitude and never caring too much about the results is important but what I learn from the process, and that if I fail unfortunately, I can take it as an experience and do my best to carry out my goal next time. My mother is a career woman, working in Cheng Kung University . On every summer and winter vacation, I study in my mother’s office; therefore, I see that she works efficiently and interacts with the students well. What I learn from my mother is that I have to make deliberate plan before I do everything so that I can finish efficiently. I also have a younger brother, who is a junior high school student. He is very naughty and always makes my mother angry. But he is very smart and often makes art works at home; additionally, he often reads science magazines to get abundant knowledge. His diligence to absorb knowledge is what I can learn. I’m lucky enough to live in a harmonious family.
School Life
I studied at Department of Applied Foreign Languages, National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS). Since I was a child, I have a big crush on English, and this is why I chose it as my major. Not only did I pay close attention in class, but I also attend some English contests to improve my English ability. For instance, I submitted two English compositions to our school’s magazine, and I attended MyET English tutor. Furthermore, with an eye of examining my English ability, I took General English Proficiency Test for the intermediate level and the level 2 of English Ability Association, and I passed them. Besides, I attained the preliminary test of the high-intermediate level of GEPT, including listening and reading in the 12th grade. Apart from learning English, I have also studied Japanese in the cram school since I was a 10th grader student, and I also listened to Japanese songs and watched Japanese animation cartoons to enhance my Japanese listening ability in my free time.
In addition to studying hard, I also learned a lot from serving as a class cadre member and joined in many activities. I have ever served as class leader, vice class leader, assistant to Regulation of Practice & Counseling Division and assistant to English writing teacher in my class. By being in charge of these positions, I got many precious experiences. For example, I was extremely happy to be elected class leader of my class, but I was not capable of being a good class leader at the beginning of the semester, since I couldn’t handle everything very well such as expressing myself clearly as I announced something important to my classmates, and leading my classmates to discuss important issues and help them to reach a conclusion. Yet, my teacher and friends helped me to undergo the tough moments; moreover, I learned step by step and did everything with all my might. Finally, I made it to be a responsible leader, and the most valuable lesson I have learned is that if I want to please everyone, I would probably please no one. Had it not been for the opportunity of being a class leader, my leadership ability could not have improved so much; also I wouldn’t grow and become more mature. Leading a class was a little difficult for me at first, but I was glad that I learned so much from serving for my class.
Self-Evaluation
I’m regarded as an optimistic and polite person. Every day I wear a smile on my face and say thank you to whoever helps me. I believe that if my classmates see my smile, they’re also in a good mood and it’s more likely for me to achieve everything successfully. Therefore, I was elected as politeness model by my classmates. Also, I believe in the creed that look on the bright sight. As I’m faced with difficulties or my failures, I always try to hold an optimistic heart and try to figure out the best solution. Plus, I’m a positive student. I attend many English competitions to improve my English ability and enrich my experiences. To my surprise, I won the stunning performances in the first year and the third in my second year in English composition contest of my school. Besides, I always do everything with all my might. It’s my belief that the more effort I make, the more likely I will succeed. In high school, I spend lots of time learning English along with my second language, Japanese. I not only do my best to remember lots of new vocabulary and grammar but also read some books to enhance Japanese culture.
I not only work hard on my school work but also participate actively in my extracurricular activities. In my pastime, I like to read novels, watch animation cartoons and movies, and listen to English and Japanese songs. I like to read novels, for I enjoy regarding myself as the main character in novels so that I can experience different lifestyles and stories. After reading every novel, I can grasp what the novels tell about, learn some good sentences in novels, and stimulate my imagination to improve my writing skills. Besides, I prefer to watch movies, cartoons, and listen to songs not only because I can feel relaxed but because I can improve my English and Japanese listening ability. As for my specialty, I’m good at playing the Trombone and recorders. I played the recorders with my classmates in elementary school, and played the Trombone in junior high school. Every time I practiced with my classmates, I felt relaxed and content with the melodious songs. Also, I treasured the moment we performed and the happiness on the audience’s face.
Future Perspectives
I will still choose English as my major in college, since I have a strong interest in English and want to broaden my learning of English; moreover, it is vital to have good foreign language abilities as looking for a job. To me, studying a foreign language is a long and difficult process, but I will do my best to improve my English ability from different aspects. I will keep reading magazines, listening to English songs and magazine CDs, practice speaking with my friends, and write some English compositions. Besides, I will do part time job as an English tutor in order to get some teaching experience and I will also take more advanced professional courses to improve English ability. Aside from English, I’ll also study Japanese and try all my might to get certificates on Japanese. Although I’ve study Japanese for three years in a cram school, I still want to enhance more knowledge in Japanese. For the purpose of advancing my English and Japanese abilities in all aspects, I really hope I can be admitted to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In the future, I will achieve my goals with all my might and make progress step by step.
Conclusion
I love English and Japanese very much, and I want to take many advanced courses in your university and get experience takes from different activities. Plus, I’ll achieve all my goals with my utmost in the future. To sum up, I hope after you review my self-description, I can be admitted to your school.
